Odds are a price, a probability and a payout rolled into one number. Once you can convert between them, most betting advice becomes easy to test. This independent guide is not operated by KX8 and does not show live odds. It teaches the three conversions that matter, shows how the bookmaker margin hides in plain sight and ends with a short set of checks you can run on any KX8 price in under a minute.
Decimal odds in one line
Decimal odds show the total return per unit staked. A stake of ৳100 at 2.50 returns ৳250 if the bet wins, which is ৳150 profit. The formula is stake x odds for the return, and stake x (odds - 1) for the profit. Decimal is the format most Bangladeshi bettors meet first, though your sportsbook may let you switch formats in its settings.
Implied probability
The chance the price suggests is 1 divided by the decimal odds. Convert any quote with that rule.
| Decimal odds | Implied chance | Profit on ৳100 |
|---|---|---|
| 1.25 | 80.0% | ৳25 |
| 1.50 | 66.7% | ৳50 |
| 2.00 | 50.0% | ৳100 |
| 3.00 | 33.3% | ৳200 |
| 5.00 | 20.0% | ৳400 |
Finding the margin
Add up the implied chances across every outcome in a market. A fair market would total 100%. Real markets total more, and the difference is the margin. A three-way football market of 2.10, 3.40 and 3.60 gives 47.6% + 29.4% + 27.8% = 104.8%. The extra 4.8 points is what the book keeps, on average, from all stakes in that market.
Lower totals are better for bettors. Compare the same match across markets and you will see that some bet types carry a heavier margin than others.
Fractional and other formats
Fractional odds of 3/2 mean a profit of 3 for each 2 staked, equal to decimal 2.50. American style odds use plus and minus numbers. If KX8 shows a different format, look in the sportsbook settings for a decimal option. Our football betting guide and cricket odds page apply these conversions to real market types.
Value and the limits of the maths
A bet has value only if your estimated chance beats the implied one. Most readers do not have a better estimate than the market, and that is fine: the honest result is often to pass. Odds never promise a result. Even a 90% shot loses one time in ten. See the sports betting overview for staking habits.
In three steps
Reading any price in 3 steps
- 1Convert to a chance
Divide 1 by the decimal odds and write the percentage.
- 2Total the market
Add the implied chances for every outcome. The excess over 100% is the margin.
- 3Compare with your view
Bet only if your own estimate is clearly higher and your stake is small.
